Bill and Bette Bryant Crisis Nursery — August 2022 Update

A Tale of Two Friends

Two little girls, Comfort and Charity have become the best of friends at the Bill and Bette Bryant Nursery (BBB) in Lusaka, Zambia.

Comfort was brought to the House of Moses (HOM) because her mom was in jail and unable to care for her. Since then, she has had no other family willing or able to take her into their home. As Comfort grew, she was transferred to BBB and continued to thrive. She is now three years old and can comfortably count to ten and say almost all her alphabet with a smile on her face! She has a fun and mischievous sense of humor and loves to make the other kids and caregivers laugh. She knows what she wants and is quick to say when she is ready to do things like fix her hair, get dressed and what she would like to wear for the day.

Recently, Charity entered her life. Charity has a similar story to Comfort, with no family to care for her. Charity also has health issues that make adoption more complicated. When she was transferred by the ACEZambia team to BBB, she was very shy at first. It was not too long before Comfort approached her, made friends, and took Charity under her wing. Now her health is stable, and she continues to grow and learn. She can count to five and say the first ten letters of the alphabet! All signs of shyness have disappeared thanks to her friendship with Comfort and the safety of the BBB.

Both girls are learning, growing, and flourishing thanks in large part to the Learning Center of Joy at BBB. Thank you for helping provide a caring, stable community for them until they can be placed into the loving arms of a family of their own!

A Home for the Mulenga Kids

Boniface, David, and Ruth are siblings that had been sheltered by ACEZambia through both the House of Moses and the Bryant Nursery for over four years. Their family situation was complicated by talk of an unpaid "bride price" and quarreling in-laws. ACEZambia social workers arranged a sit-down to try and work out a solution for these precious children to finally get out of institutional care and back with family. The families finally resolved their issues, and a plan was put into place for all three kids. Home assessments were completed successfully by ACE's social workers and the government approved the children's return to their biological family.

The children were collected by ACE social workers and reunited with their paternal grandmother and father. We never gave up on finding a solution for these three siblings and with support from partners like The Outreach Foundation, we had the staff, means, and support to place the children back in the arms of family.

Grateful for your partnership,

The Outreach Foundation and Alliance for Children Everywhere Zambia
