Namumu Orphanage Center - Update

Siavonga, Zambia

Christopher Kasanda and Florence Chisangano grew up in vulnerable households near Siavonga, Zambia. They were each referred to Namumu Orphan Center (NOC) at a young age. There, they received care and were able to attend school. They did well in school and after years of study AND medical training, they have both returned to the Namumu clinic as clinical officers (similar to nurse practitioners). They are happy to return and Namumu is excited to have them back. They are role models for the 17 children at NOC. The Outreach Foundation is helping to support the children, including paying the school fees for the 13 children in secondary schools.

Local partners are also helping to provide for the children at NOC and the community at large. The Namumu clinic, where Christopher and Florence are working, is currently being expanded to accommodate services for antenatal and postnatal care, counseling and testing, and deliveries. There is also an adolescent health program being developed. The extension will offer the growing community and the children of Namumu access to essential health services.

The construction and equipping of the clinic are being graciously funded by the nearby Kaliolio Crocodile Farm, a local business. They have also improved the clinic’s water system and supplied medicines and face masks for protection from the coronavirus.

Christopher and Florence write, “We grew up here at Namumu Orphanage Center and were provided with everything, through the support from The Outreach Foundation. There is a saying in Tonga, the Zambian local language, ‘no appreciation is enough for great kindness.’ But we still want to thank you (Outreach Foundation) all for your kindness and generosity, which has provided us with the education, hope, and courage to live a better life. The Outreach Foundation has changed our lives by supporting us through the ministry of Namumu. Thank you for helping us complete our professional training as clinical officers. We are proud to return and serve Namumu and the community where we grew up.”

They conclude by encouraging The Outreach Foundation to continue helping the children of Namumu and the community to reach their potential through education.

Your generous gifts through The Outreach Foundation help make it possible for vulnerable children in the rural villages near Siavonga, Zambia to complete their education and vocational training to achieve their dreams and help develop their community. Thank you for your support of the children of Namumu.
