Ukraine — God's Redemptive Mission in a Broken World

The heartbreaking war in Ukraine continues. Through the generosity of many churches and friends, The Outreach Foundation has been able to establish deep relationships throughout the region, offering relief, support, and encouragement. One of these relationships developed into an actual partner — the Ukraine Evangelical Theological Seminary (UETS) in Kyiv. UETS has been greatly involved with humanitarian relief, spiritual support, and ministry to Ukrainian soldiers. At the invitation of several churches here, UETS President Dr. Ivan Rusyn recently traveled to the U.S. to share his story.

Dr. Rusyn’s visit began in San Diego with friends from First Presbyterian Church, hosted by Susan Montoya and Stephanie Olivero, then continued to National Presbyterian in Washington, D.C., where he was hosted by Nancy and Quinn Fox. Dr. Rusyn spoke twice at National — once for combined adult Sunday School and then again at a lunch hosted by their Military Ministry. You may view his Sunday School presentation HERE. From there, he traveled to Norfolk, Virginia.

Columbus, Georgia was the last stop for Dr. Rusyn. While there, he preached at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and was hosted by Jill and Dan Gilbert. As Dr. Rusyn was waiting for his return flight, he sent the following note:

Dear friends, I am at the Columbus airport waiting for my first flight on my way home. I deeply appreciate the hospitality and care I experienced visiting San Diego, Washington DC, Norfolk, and Columbus, GA.  I am returning home encouraged and inspired. Your love, generosity, and sincere prayers touched my heart. I was amazed at how many things we have in common when we speak about God’s redemptive mission in a broken world. My experience during this trip will greatly encourage my team at Ukraine Evangelical Theological Seminary. I look forward to seeing how God will use us and our friendship for the healing and rebuilding of Ukraine through our words and deeds. Thank you!

 With much appreciation,

 Ivan
