Namumu Orphanage Center — March 2023 Update

Siavonga, Zambia

Three Namumu Children Graduate from High School!

Orphaned children are among the most vulnerable people in society here in Zambia. At Namumu Orphanage Center (NOC) in Siavonga, Zambia, special care is given to help children live lives as close to normal as possible. This is possible through the help of partners including The Outreach Foundation, which has supported Namumu since its inception in 2000. Namumu provides vulnerable children with food, clothing, shelter, medicine, and spiritual and educational support.

Edna Sikavumbu, Samaria Hamunyongo, and Anthia Samende came from vulnerable households in Siavonga and were enrolled at Namumu at a young age. They received their primary education at Namumu primary school and proceeded to Mubuyu Christian Academy for high school, earning good scores for both grade seven and nine exams. Mubuyu Christian Academy is a private girls’ boarding school in Siavonga and one of the district's best schools. The Outreach Foundation is helping to support 16 children there by assisting with boarding fees, food, clothes, groceries, and more.

On November 19, 2022, Edina, Samaria, and Anthia graduated from Mubuyu Christian Academy. Namumu Board Chairperson Leonard Hachitapika and Director Siakwale Matomola attended the ceremony. The girls were supported by The Outreach Foundation from primary school through high school. The event was wonderful, and Samaria was awarded the most outstanding pupil.

To express their appreciation, Edina, Samaria, and Anthia wore t-shirts during the ceremony that said, “It has been a great journey with the help of Namumu Orphanage Center, thank you.’’ They also stated, “We want to express our genuine gratitude and sincere thanks to The Outreach Foundation for the tireless support rendered to us. It is a blessing to know that there are people out there who are concerned about the underprivileged. You have shown your concern by stretching your hand toward our education. We thank you for everything. God bless all of you who have been part of our journey.’’

When asked about their plans and dreams after completing high school, this is what each one said:

·         Edina Sikavumbu “I plan to start working as I await my results. After the results have been released, I want to pursue my dreams of becoming a nurse to save people`s lives and help others like me. I thank God for your support and may the good Lord add more years to your lives. I appreciate you.’’

·         Samaria Hamunyongo “Since I completed school this year, I will work while waiting for my results. My ambition is to be a doctor to help save people`s lives. You have done marvelous things in my life. God bless you all.”

·         Anthia Samende I will find a part-time job while waiting for my results. I am hoping to continue my education next year. My dream is to become a nurse and one day come back to work at the Namumu clinic and serve the community. You have been there for me through thick and thin, and I am grateful for that.’’

During the graduation ceremony, the girls were presented with smartphones for their persistence and hard work in school. We hope the remaining girls and boys will emulate these girls; we have no doubt they will obtain good results. At Namumu Orphanage Center, we are so grateful for the support of our partners, who are committed to strengthening families and building stronger, healthier, and safer communities. Together, we are helping to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of many.

Thanks to the help of our partners, we will continue to fulfill our mission to ensure the provision of services and support to orphans and vulnerable children in Siavonga so that they have every opportunity to become responsible, independent adults.

Thank you!
