Ukraine Evangelical Theological Seminary, A Beacon of God's Love

Kyiv

Ukraine War Relief Partner Story

The Ukraine Evangelical Theological Seminary (UETS) stands as a beacon of God’s love in the midst of the devastating war in Ukraine. Kyiv, which is the capital of Ukraine, has experienced an escalation in military conflict since Ukrainian Independence Day, August 24. Yet rather than retreat, UETS leadership, staff, faculty, and students carry on with its ministry.

Since UETS is located relatively close to the eastern front of the war, worship services and the provision of the sacraments (Eucharist and even baptism) carry on for those in the military. As people see the love of God exhibited they are responding through a strong spiritual revival. Additionally, UETS is providing counseling services for many people traumatized by the war and for military chaplains who themselves are experiencing PTSD.

The relief ministry has grown, providing nearly 1,500 hot meals per week. People come for lunch at the UETS cafeteria, and for those who live in remote villages, UETS delivers food in boxes. A new trend they report is that many families are taking an extra portion of food and freezing it for the upcoming winter.

There is a strong fear that this year’s winter will be more severe than the previous one. With so many people displaced from their homes, a severely damaged power grid, and fuel and food shortages, there simply isn’t much available to provide. The black market trade of goods has increased and trafficking continues. In this situation, UETS provides a sanctuary and a reminder that hope persists as the gift of God, even when it is fragile.

Each month, The Outreach Foundation provides funds that allow UETS to continue its relief ministry in spaces where none of us can go. Yet we can stand with this marvelous team of God’s servants to support their calling in this time. Please continue to make your financial gifts that will help UETS carry on as the cold of winter approaches.
