San Pablo Presbyterian Theological Seminary - August 2021 Update

Mérida, Yucatán

Despite the COVID-19, pandemic, we continue training leaders and pastors to fulfill the Great Commission.

We Were Impacted as a Seminary by COVID-19

·         Although just three members of our personnel were affected by the coronavirus and are now well, some friends and pastors around us died.

·         We had to change some things about the way we train our students. The most important change was to establish online courses. We will continue providing courses online until the COVID situation improves.

·         In the midst of this situation, in October 2020, we suffered the onslaught of a tropical storm. There was extensive damage to our facilities. So far, we have repaired six classrooms and two bedrooms. Unfortunately, we have not been able to repaint the buildings of our facility due to high humidity levels.

Nonetheless, We Continue Doing our Job

On June 5, 2021, we graduated 12 students, two in our Sacred Music program and 10 in our Theology program.

This is Daniel Navarro, speaking behind a plexiglass COVID barrier. Daniel graduated in June 2021 and due to his excellent work, he was accepted into Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids Michigan. He started his master’s degree program there in August.

We will have another graduation in early September where 21 students will graduate from the Biblical Counseling program and 12 in Theology. The graduation date for this group of students was pushed back slightly due to COVID.

Our new semester runs from August 30 to December 17. All our programs will continue to be online until the situation improves

With the help of Donald Wehmeyer, one of our professors, two members of our faculty took a course at the Davenat Institute in Greenville, S.C. The course was “The Protestant Wisdom” and provided continuing education for our professors.

Our Current Needs

1.       We would like to complete repairs on at least six more apartments. This would allow us to accommodate 18 additional students. The cost to finish one apartment is approximately $4,000.

2.       Student scholarships of $2,500 will cover tuition, food, and lodging for a school year. Partial amounts are welcomed.

3.       $6,000 a year for support for professors will cover the total salary and taxes of one teacher. Partial support is welcomed.

4.      We want to repaint the main education building at a cost of $1,200.

I am grateful for your partnership in equipping pastors and leaders at San Pablo Theological Seminary for ministry in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Sincerely,

Rev. Amós Cahuich Yam, Rector
