Haiti Outreach Ministries Update April 2024

Despite the ongoing violence in Port-au-Prince, our programs continue to operate. A few weeks ago, the schools resumed classes after Easter break. While some students and teachers could not travel safely due to blocked roads, the average attendance rate across the three primary schools and Barye Fe secondary school was 80%. Similarly, the medical/dental clinic staff have experienced challenges getting to work, but the clinic remains open and provides care for those in need, seeing about 80 patients per day. Water treatment facilities are open and serve as a vital resource for the communities. During the month of March, 52,000 gallons of clean drinking water were distributed to individuals in Cite Soleil, Terre Noire, and Repatriote. Also, the churches in Haiti all held worship services with almost 85% attendance in both worship and Sunday School. Praise God that so many were able to worship their risen Lord on Easter!

Founding Director of Haiti Outreach Ministries, Leon Dorleans, shared some of this amazing work during a recent trip to Franklin, Tennessee, where The Outreach Foundation is headquartered. While here, Outreach trustee Tom McDow and his wife Jane graciously hosted a gathering of more than 75 people representing four churches to hear from Pastor Leon about the ministry happening in Haiti. Unfortunately, due to the unrest in Haiti, Leon is unable to return home at this time but will continue to speak and work from the United States. Leon’s wife Jacky remains safe in a location away from their home and does not plan to return until Leon can be with her. Her outlook is "hopeful with confidence" – indeed, Jacky has an active faith!

Pastor Leon will be staying in the United States until Haiti Outreach Ministries’ 35th Anniversary celebration, which will take place in North Carolina in the first part of May. Haiti Outreach Ministries looks forward to coming together to celebrate this milestone made possible by God and by so many friends and partners. During this challenging time in Haiti, they feel it is more important than ever that we use this celebration to pause to give thanks for all that God has done in their midst. As you can see, Haiti Outreach Ministries continues to be a beacon of hope among the people of Haiti, despite the violence happening all around them.  We continue to give thanks for their safety and for all they are doing during this very challenging time.
