Ukraine Appeal - Relief Has Become Personal

Providing care to people from Ukraine is taking personal shape in Lithuania as people open their homes to receive women and their children. City Church’s pastor, Saul, his wife Sanna, and their three children have opened their home to Nastya from Mykolaiv, Ukraine.

Mykolaiv is a city close to the Black Sea, where there has been much violence. Nastya, who is 35 years old, was convinced by her family to leave due to increased threats to women by Russian soldiers. She left behind her mother and father who were unable to evacuate. “It has been very difficult,” she said.

Nastya tells horrific stories involving people dressed with “VOLUNTEER” written on their clothing. “They seem nice,” she says, “but really they are traffickers who are stealing women and children.” The journey from Ukraine to neighboring Lithuania is fraught with many such encounters.

Following a harrowing 7-day journey to Klaipeda, Lithuania she arrived having heard from others, including her sister who relocated earlier, what good things City Church has been doing for refugees. The other day Nastya was able to celebrate her birthday with several new friends from Ukraine who have relocated to Lithuania, pictured above.
