CCAP Community Schools — October Update

Zambia

We thank our Lord who has been so faithful in the work of community schools. The government of Zambia has a policy of free education that presents challenges for the running of community schools. We are grateful for the support that we receive from our Outreach partners.

As reported in our April update, the COVID-19 pandemic did affect CCAP Community Schools. We followed government-required measures so that none of the schools were completely shut down during the pandemic. Thankfully, none of the students or staff became seriously ill or died during the period. Parents trusted schools to be safe places for their children. There was a very good pass rate on the national academic assessment. Three of the schools have income-generating activities to support their programs. Additional CCAP congregations are requesting community schools to be started in their areas. This is an important education and evangelization achievement for the Synod.

Prayer requests:

·         We need to conduct training workshops for new volunteer teachers to replace those who have gone to government schools.

·         To retain good teachers, we need to provide allowances and incentives.

·         We need computers and printers at each school to conduct end-of-term assessments and develop work plans.

 ·         We must expand income-generating activities to supplement the schools’ operating costs. With free government education and reduced parent contributions, the schools must raise funds.

·         We need to complete several schools that are under construction and establish facilities for generating income. This is especially important for the students who may not continue their education to the secondary level and need a trade skill.

May Almighty continue blessing you,

Mabuchi Ndhlovu, Coordinator
