Don and Martha Wehmeyer - June 2021 Update

Yucatán, Mexico

Dear friends,

Martha and I are now fully vaccinated and starting to move around more. Martha has been in Wichita Falls and Dallas to help with the grandchildren and will be bringing Guillen and Sahia down here with Valerie. The other two will follow when their school year gets out.

The little church I am pastoring in Sitpatch is doing well. We have both in-person and online services although there is the possibility that in-person church will be closed again as the number of COVID cases is going up in Merida.

I have also been teaching online for the National Presbyterian Seminary in Mexico City. 18 young people are in the course on spirituality, and it has been great. These folks, music and theology majors, are devoted Christians and give me confidence for the future of the Reformed church here. I have been waiting on a couple of invitations to teach in Colombia but there seems to still be problems there with the virus.

Last week I went with two pastors (one Mexican, one American) to teach a course on family counseling in the mountains of Oaxaca, a town called Ixcuintepec. It was a 7-hour dirt road trip. Flat tire going in. Stuck in a deep ditch going out. The result of the trip was that we are planning to continue the training with each of the six churches in the Misame Presbytery. Each training event will be two and a half days. I will recruit people to go with me from the San Pablo Seminary or the local churches.

It looks like San Pablo will open again in late August so we ask your prayers for that.

May the Lord bless you and keep you, may His face shine upon you and give you peace.

Donald and Martha
