Resources for Lay Leaders in China - April 2020 Update

Resources for Lay Leaders in China December 2019 update Study Bible and other materials being gifted.jpg

Dear friends in the United States,

Here in Hong Kong, our colleagues and families are all fine. After gradually returning to work in the office in late March, we had to resume working from home in early April. Many of the students returning from overseas after Easter break brought back the virus although they were unaware of being infected. This led to a sudden, drastic increase in the number of confirmed cases.

Although working again from home, we continue to serve churches and individual Chinese speaking Christians by conducting training and providing literature through online platforms, which has been very well received! In March we held 57 online courses, seminars, and talks. China is gradually reducing the restrictions on travel within the country. Colleges and high schools will resume classes within the coming months. We expect that seminaries and Bible schools will follow the same schedule. Meanwhile, we have been busy preparing the Book Gifting Project for this year’s 5,000 graduates from 60 seminaries, Bible schools, and training centers throughout China.

We are encouraged that some provinces are using online services to continue their ministries. One of these is the Fujian Province in East China. The Fujian Theological Seminary, with support from both the government and CCC leadership, continues to provide theological education through online classrooms for students of all levels. They recently held the online panel for graduates to defend their thesis to the board of external examiners and the administration is optimistic that commencement will be held in July as scheduled.

The COVID-19 situation here improved significantly recently with only single digits of confirmed cases. But we learned from the media that the situation in the States is still very challenging. We are praying for you, your Outreach colleagues, and their families.

Sincerely in Christ,

Thomas Tang
