Ethiopia #6: Refugee camps in Gambella

By Frank Dimmock, Africa Mission Consultant

On the second day of refugee camp visits, we started in Tierkidi (Kule 1) camp. We visited the congregation at Pagak where the Bible school (Pagak Mercery Institute)  is located. Rev. John Chuol Duel (pictured in front in the picture to the right) is the Principal of the school. Earlier this year they graduated 17 students in their second class, including 8 women.

We visited the Jordan parish preschool in the Nguenyiel Camp and were received by many children and the Presbyterian Women who thanked The Outreach Foundation for helping to educate the children.

We visited with Rev. Daniel Mark Gatwech and his wife Christina at the Pulang Parish. They greeted us with music from the keyboard and equipment donated by The Outreach Foundation in 2017. Five youths have been trained on the instruments.

The Pulang girls’ choir performed for our group.

This marked the conclusion of our visits to the refugee camps in Gambella. With the support of The Outreach Foundation, many children are enabled to attend school, adults can benefit from literacy training, thousands have received Bibles and hymnbooks in their native language (Nuer), and many adults and youth in the 6 camps, have received trauma healing training and have joined healing groups. Praise God for this important work over the past 7 years.
