Holistic Evangelism in Tete Province, Mozambique

The rainy season is finally over in Tete Province, which means work is getting underway on big improvements at the Holistic Evangelism Project’s Leadership Training Center (LTC).

Currently, more than 80 churches in Tete Province are served by only three pastors. To help them better balance their responsibilities, project leaders Nedson Zulu and Sebber Banda designed a series of leadership training seminars to equip lay people to lead congregations since the pastors cannot be regularly present. These seminars are offered throughout the year and equip leaders for elder training, evangelist skills, Presbyterian women’s guilds, youth leadership, couples, etc. Sadly, Nedson passed away several years ago, but Sebber and assistant director Rev. Carlos Faquione continue the good work.

Seminars are held at the LTC, which was built about 10 years ago and consists of a church, a dormitory, a kitchen, some latrines, and a well and water tank. God has blessed the program with increasing attendance each year, and it has outgrown the original LTC. Now underway, stage two of the building’s construction will add a skills training hall, a fellowship hall (where seminars will be held instead of in the church), a guest house for seminar facilitators, a new kitchen, another well, and some bathrooms.

These buildings will be constructed in the same way as the project’s churches, schools, and teacher housing. It is a partnership with the local congregation or community. They provide sweat equity by clearing the land, gathering stones and sand, making bricks or blocks, and supplying non-skilled labor. The rest of the materials and skilled labor are provided thanks to the faithful giving of donors to the Holistic Evangelism in Tete Province project.
