A Legacy of Faith & a Vision for the Future: Resiliency in China
Note: This October, The Outreach Foundation is thrilled to host Christian Communications Limited (CCL) in Charlotte and Houston, welcoming Mr. Matthew Fung (General Secretary), Dr. Otto Lui (Associate General Secretary), and Dr. Thomas Tang (Special Counsel and former General Secretary).
In China, where Christianity surges despite tightening policies and cultural shifts, Christian Communications Limited (CCL) empowers a church pulsing with resilience and hope. From remote ethnic minority villages to vibrant urban centers, believers face daunting challenges: a shortage of trained pastors and difficulty engaging the next generation. Recently, CCL’s team shared stories of unwavering faith and bold innovation in China.
Meet Teacher Ke Li, whose 20-year legacy transformed countless lives, and Teacher Jin, a young leader blazing trails in urban ministry. Their journeys, radiant with courage, call us to join CCL in fueling this vibrant mission.
“Firepit” by Ke Li
Teacher Ke Li, who passed suddenly in April 2025, was a gospel titan for CCL’s “Mandarin-speaking Community Ministry.” For two decades, he traversed 20 provinces, wielding creative tools like inductive Bible studies and drama to equip pastors. When the pandemic halted gatherings, Ke Li championed CCL’s online courses on biblical backgrounds, empowering leaders in restricted regions to deepen their faith. From providing flood relief in Henan to mentoring leaders during quiet train journeys, Ke Li’s service embodied Christ’s love. His words, “studying the Bible is worship,” underscore CCL’s vital role in delivering theological resources to remote corners, strengthening faith in challenging contexts.
As an artist, he brought the gospel to many rural ethnic Chinese groups. His poignant Chinese-style drawing “Firepit” captured the struggles of ethnic minorities, where people worship the god of the firepit. To avoid bad luck, they keep fires burning daily. Ke Li’s artwork showed how the Lord, the true God, created fire and offers freedom from their bondage.
Equally compelling is Teacher Jin, a fourth-generation leader under age 40, shining as a beacon for CCL in an era when many young Chinese leaders drift from ministry. Armed with two master’s degrees earned abroad, Jin serves a city church and seminary, championing innovative urban mission strategies. Despite resistance from older leaders, he organizes seminars to inspire change, connecting with tech-savvy youth who are finding paths through the challenges of the current context. Balancing ministry and raising three children while taking care of their parents,
Jin and his wife embody the struggles of emerging leaders. His vision reflects CCL’s foresight in nurturing young voices to bridge generational divides and keep the church vibrant and relevant.
THE OPPORTUNITY
CCL meets these challenges with wisdom, equipping pastors with accessible tools and training to foster resilience across China’s diverse Christian landscape. You can make a transformative impact. First, pray for CCL’s teams in mainland China as they navigate complex realities. Second, a $150 gift provides mini-libraries of “Living Word Bible Teaching Series” resources for rural pastors and seminary graduates, empowering them to teach effectively in underserved areas. Third, a $20 donation supplies a study Bible, placing God’s Word directly in leaders’ hands. These contributions provide quality resources to courageous church leaders, ensuring the church’s vitality.
