the Gift of God’s Word in the Heart Language of the Tzeltal People
Imagine encountering the Bible for the very first time, not in a second language, but in the language, you speak to your children, whisper in prayer, and carry in your heart. For Tzeltal-speaking Christians in southern México, that moment is finally within reach, and you can help make it possible.
The Tzeltal people, nearly 400,000 strong, live in the lush highlands of Chiapas. For over 50,000 of them, Tzeltal is their only spoken language. While a full translation of the Bible into Tzeltal was completed in 2003, it has never been widely published, leaving many without access to the scriptures in the language closest to their hearts.
Why does a heart language Bible matter? Because reading God’s Word in one’s mother tongue is transformative.
It deepens understanding- making the Bible’s message more accessible and meaningful.
It strengthens personal faith- allowing God’s voice to be heard in the language of the soul.
It brings cultural relevance- helping new believers live out their faith within their own traditions and communities.
The National Presbyterian Church of México, in partnership with The Outreach Foundation, is taking bold steps to change this reality. Their goal: to print and distribute 10,000 Tzeltal Bibles. The initiative is deeply personal to Rev. Julián Hernández, president of the denomination, who is himself a native Tzeltal speaker.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We invite you to be part of this transformative mission. With a fundraising goal of $150,000, we are working to bring the Word of God to Tzeltal-speaking churches and families. Every gift, large or small, moves us closer to placing a Bible into the hands of someone who has never had one in their language.
Will you help give the gift of scripture in the heart language of the Tzeltal people?
You may send a check to the address below with “Mexico Partnership” in the memo line or make a gift on the GIVE page of our website: www.theoutreachfoundation.org.
