San Pablo Seminary Update
The 2025–2026 academic year at San Pablo Presbyterian Theological Seminary was marked by change, enhanced global partnerships, and sending more servants into the field. The seminary, based in Mérida, Yucatán, continues to train theology students from 20 Mexican states, as well as Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Chile, and Colombia. Many students are fluent in Mayan, reflecting the seminary’s deep connection to indigenous communities in southern México and Central America.

Leadership Transition
After 21 fruitful years, Amós Cahuich Yam stepped down as Rector of San Pablo. Amós will stay on at the seminary as a professor. We are grateful to Amós for his effective leadership of San Pablo. Academic Dean Pastor José Luis Pech Polanco replaced him last month.
Expanding Global Partnerships
San Pablo is also taking steps to make higher-level seminary education available to their students. They recently formed a relationship with Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Through this partnership, students obtain a Master of Arts in Religion in two or three years while fully online. In June, Amós and José Luis joined 70 professors from 30 seminaries at a Global Summit held at Puritan’s Michigan campus.
This program complements their existing relationship with Calvin Theological Seminary, which enables San Pablo students to complete a two-year Master of Arts in Leadership. Twelve students are enrolled in this online program this year.
Celebrating 2026 Graduates
On June 16, the seminary celebrated the graduation of 42 students(a 21% increase from last year!):
5 received a Master of Arts in Theology
11 received a Master of Arts in Leadership (through Calvin Seminary)
14 received a Bachelor of Theology
9 received a Certificate in Biblical Counseling
3 received an Associate Degree in Sacred Music
Summer break did not last long for many students. The next cohort of Master of Arts in Theology began classes in mid-June with intensive classes on campus.
