Compassion Protestant Society: A Safe Place During Crisis | March 2026

In the early hours of March 2, countless residents in southern Lebanon were told to evacuate. Within hours, highways jammed as people fled.

Early estimates were that more than 50,000 people were displaced in one day, and that number rises with each day as evacuation orders expand. Where do those internally displaced people go? The simple answer, wherever they can find shelter.

But what would happen if there was another option? A way for those who have been displaced could find not just assistance, but safe places for their children and the psychological support necessary to cope with the fear, loss, and uncertainty that arises in moments like this.

That’s exactly what Compassion Protestant Society (CPS), the diaconal arm of the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, is ready to provide.

They write: In moments like this, local churches are often among the first places families turn to for safety, reassurance, and practical support. Because of our long-standing relationships with congregations, pastors, and community volunteers, CPS is uniquely positioned to:

  • rapidly identify vulnerable displaced families

  • mobilize a network of trusted volunteers and first-line responders

  • deliver protective and stabilizing support to vulnerable

  • displaced families of all backgrounds

  • strengthen the capacity of church and community responders.

With this new wave of displaced people, CPS is ready to respond in faithfulness and hope. Through their network of churches and community centers, CPS is mobilizing to support displaced families, especially children, with psychosocial care, safe spaces, and practical assistance during this turbulent time.

Such work is especially important now, because they are serving communities where essential services are already strained because of prolonged economic collapse and recurring security instability.

And that’s where you come in.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Pray for the work of CPS as they support displaced families. Pray too for wisdom, protection and peace for Lebanon and the wider region.

In addition, The Outreach Foundation is seeking gifts of any size to support the mission and ministry of Compassion Protestant Society as they support displaced families in shelters and host communities, while providing psychological support as well as safe spaces and structured activities for children.

You may make a gift by sending a check to the address below with the partner name CPS in the memo or you can donate on our website: www.theoutreachfoundation.org.
