Reflejo’s Discovery Bible Study Shared in Remote Villages

Haku - A remote ministry to children outside Cuzco, Peru

Every week, Michael and Nohemi Palomino drive three hours into the mountains with muddy terrain and no clear roads. Some days, due to landslides, they’re not sure if they’ll arrive at the village, but God always makes a way.

“What would you like Jesus to do for you?” The Palominos asked children at the local school. The children raised their hands and answered:

“For my dad to come back.”
“For him to help me with school.”
“For no more fighting at home.”
“For my family to know Jesus.”

These heartfelt prayers reflect the brokenness many children face — and the hope they’re beginning to discover.

This is one of six schools the Palominos visit outside Cuzco, Peru. They are the first people invited to share the Gospel there. Despite the remote location of these villages, the Palominos have been visiting these communities for three years now with a desire to share God’s love. They joined Reflejo and were equipped with Discovery Bible Study (DBS) tools. Then, they began to help children from 1st to 6th grade explore the Bible in their language. This is the only way these children will get to hear about Jesus. Most villages don’t speak Spanish, but Que’chua, a dialect. That is why their ministry is called Haku-walking alongside (which means let’s go in Que’chua). The Palominos want to walk alongside children as they discover how to walk alongside Jesus.

When they began facilitating the DBS groups, they were surprised by how it opened the space for the Spirit to move among these families. They saw families broken due to alcoholism being restored, and children who had never heard about Jesus put their faith in Him and share Bible stories with their parents.

The Opportunity

The Outreach Foundation is seeking gifts of any size to support the ongoing work of Reflejo and the Palominos as they help Que’chua-speaking kids to learn about Jesus. The team recently started monthly ophthalmology visits that combine medical care with spiritual support, counseling, and children’s activities. You may send a check to the address below with “Reflejo” in the memo line or give on our website: www.theoutreachfoundation.org.
