Presbyterian Church of Rwanda - March 2024 Update

Thriving Churches Despite Construction Setbacks

Stu Ross, Africa Mission Specialist for The Outreach Foundation, and his wife Annie were recently hosted by Rev. Dr. Pascal Bataringaya, President of the Presbyterian Church of Rwanda (EPR). During Stu’s visit, they were able to see three churches in the region. Gakenke Parish Church was the first they visited. This church has been closed for two years because it cannot meet the government standards for electricity and working toilets. Rev. Pascal noted that getting this church opened was a main priority. Money will be donated, and the church should be finished in the next several months.

The Gihara Parish Church was the next one visited. The church roof had recently been blown off causing major damage to the structure of the building. Stu has suggested that a good architect and structural engineer be brought in to assess the whole building for structural issues. There will be support for the completion of this church, and the work should be completed by the end of the year.

The last church visited was the Musambira Parish Church, which also needed help with the church's structure. They are a mostly poor congregation of about 1,200 members but have done great work so far in constructing their church building. Support will be given to this congregation so that they can have their building completed by the end of the year.

While on their visit, Stu helped dedicate the EPR Rugarama Church and the EPR Nyagatare Church. We are excited about the amazing work that the Presbyterian Church of Rwanda continues to do despite the setbacks that sometimes happen. We are thankful for our Africa Mission Specialist Stu Ross who can help better understand the needs of the Rwandan Churches.
