Home of Hope in Zimbabwe - April 2021 Update

Zimbabwe

Dear family in Christ Jesus,

How wonderful that God loves us so much that he gave us his most precious gift, his only begotten son Jesus. Through Jesus, we are forgiven and given everlasting life. In Jeremiah 31:34 we hear God’s word speaking, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

What an amazing message to share with those who think they have no hope, especially now when many are unemployed, have lost loved ones, and see no future for themselves except for life on the street. What a joy to share the Good News with those who must fight for survival, sharing with them that despite living in a fallen world, our hope is not of this world but in God who has compassion and has given us a heavenly home.

We thank all who support us so that we may help those living on the street with food, clothes, medicine, soap, and the Good News of Jesus. We pray that the Lord will be with you always.

It has been especially hard here during the lockdown for the poor who need help with so many things and have nowhere to go. We continue to help by feeding the hungry, giving out medicine, soap, and clothes (when we have them) three days a week, usually to 60-90 people. We will also assist those in need of school fees when the schools re-open.

When we can’t see the future…but we have great hope because we know the Lord that sees and knows all. He puts his hand into our hands and leads us in his paths even though we live in darkness as he is our light. “Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.” Psalm 119:49

COVID-19 has curtailed many activities, but some people are beginning to receive their first and even second vaccine and masks remain necessary. Schoolchildren are returning to school. Essential services, including supermarkets, have remained open with temperature monitoring and hand sanitizing at entry points. Most shops have signs that indicate no entry unless hands are washed and masks are worn, and all comply.

We have had the best rains in many years in Zimbabwe. Dry lands are recovering, with many of our inland lakes full and providing drinking water and irrigation for crops. Some of our power needs are met by the Lake Kariba power station. Our staple maize crops are the best in decades, which has certainly lifted spirits across the country.

Joan has not been well lately. However, she is responding to the treatment prescribed by her doctor. Sadly, earlier this month, Joan lost her son and Craig his remaining brother who died after suffering a spider bite. Joan and Craig flew to Johannesburg in South Africa to be with family at his funeral and will be returning at the end of this month.

May you stay close to our true God, who covers you with his love and caring, providing miracles daily.

Much love,
Joan, Craig, Ria and Dave
