Reflejo: Writing a new story of hope in Peru

In recent years, Comas, a district within Lima, Peru, has become synonymous with violence and despair. Once a vibrant community, it now bears the weight of organized crime, as international gangs battle for control. Extortion, prostitution, and drug trafficking plague daily life.

But amidst the chaos, God is writing a new story.

Through the power of the gospel and a courageous new Outreach Foundation partner—Reflejo (Reflection)—hope is taking root. In late 2023, Reflejo staff member Jessica launched a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) in a local school with 17 women. Within weeks, 13 of them embraced faith in Christ. Inspired and emboldened, these women began sharing the gospel in public schools. And surprisingly, doors opened.

Educators, recognizing the desperate need for hope, welcomed Reflejo. Today, eight schools have invited DBS groups to minister to students and parents alike. A theater teacher named Miguel is acting out Bible stories with students. After theater class, they gather for a DBS facilitated by teenagers who have decided to follow Christ.

These sessions are not only about scripture—they’re lifelines. The Bible is presented as a counterforce to gang recruitment, drug addiction, and suicide.

The results have been miraculous:

  • More than 1,445 individuals are now engaged in weekly school and home-based Bible studies.

  • 156 new believers have given their lives to Christ, and one new church has been planted.

  • Parents who once lived in fear are becoming spiritual leaders in their homes and neighborhoods.

Even one principal, still exploring faith, said with conviction:

“I gave you the keys to our school... violence has diminished, drug use, overdoses, prostitution, and suicide rates are lower… your group has changed history.”

Reflejo’s work in Comas is a shining example of how the gospel can transform the darkest places into communities of peace, purpose, and revival.

We believe this is just the beginning.

With your support, Reflejo will continue training passionate leaders like Jessica, deepen its work in Lima, and expand into neighboring countries Argentina and Bolivia. Your partnership will help bring the light of Christ to communities desperate for healing and hope.
