Commencement

“You are Lebanon’s greatest assets”

Haigazian University marked the end of a successful 2021-2022 academic year by holding its 62nd annual commencement exercises on June 3rd, 2022 on its campus in Beirut. In an atmosphere of joy, 107 undergraduates and graduates received their bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the first in-person ceremony since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The event was streamed live on Facebook to allow a larger number of proud onlookers to watch their loved ones as they embarked on a new phase of their lives.

In her inspiring keynote speech, Costanza Farina, UNESCO Director of the Regional Bureau of Education in the Arab States, focused on the values of UNESCO, which are also shared and implemented by Haigazian University. “UNESCO strongly believes that education, higher education, and lifelong learning are a public good … We support the right to higher education and advocate for inclusive and equitable quality higher education and lifelong learning opportunities for all,” said Farina, inviting all graduates to become UNESCO Ambassadors. Tackling the Lebanese economic crisis, Farina concluded her speech with a message of hope. “While crises have caused some setbacks, Lebanon is making strides to be again a shining light of knowledge and learning in the region and beyond. You are the key elements of that process; you are Lebanon’s greatest assets,” she said.

Webinar
The Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Haigazian University organized a webinar titled “The Role of Innovation in the Revival of the Lebanese Economy” which took place in April.

During the two-hour webinar, four experts from various sectors of the Lebanese economy — banking, energy, trade, and agronomy — were brought together to discuss and analyze the current Lebanese economic crisis, proposing innovative solutions for its revival. The four featured speakers were Farid Meshaka, Executive Director for the Institutions Business Development unit at Banque BEMO; Rony Karam, founding member and president of the Lebanese Foundation for Renewable Energy (LFRE); Philippe Adaime, CEO and co-founder of Fair Trade Lebanon; and founding partner and general manager of Fair Trade and Tourism Lebanon Adib Dada, an environmental architect.

The webinar opened with a word of greetings from Haigazian University’s President Rev. Dr. Paul Haidostian, who considered the topic of discussion as provocative with all the failures that Lebanon is facing. “Repetition and imitation may serve our purposes for a while, but continuity, relevance, and success need innovation, not mere repetition,” said Haidostian.
