Haiti Outreach Ministries - February 2021 Update

Dear friends of Haiti Outreach Ministries:

As we begin 2021, I give thanks for you and the many ways that you support our ministry with your prayers, student sponsorships, financial gifts, and words of encouragement. In the face of much uncertainty, we are grateful for the many good things going on related to our shared ministry in Haiti, so I am writing to give you several updates. Our staff in Haiti is very busy:

- We currently have 1,825 students enrolled in our schools with 1,412 in the primary schools and 413 at the  Baryé Fè secondary school.

- Our medical and dental staff continue to see patients at our clinic in Terre Noire. At the end of February, we will say good-bye to Dr. Quency Etienne, our beloved medical director. Dr. Quency is moving to the U.S. to be near family. We welcome Dr. Beethoven Solon to our clinic and look forward to introducing him to you formally in our email next month.

- Our three churches are worshipping regularly on Sundays giving encouragement to the communities we serve.

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have not been able to travel to Haiti since last March. Haiti also is currently experiencing political unrest that has led to continued protests, social unrest, and increased insecurity. In light of these factors, all HOM team travel to Haiti has been suspended until at least June. We continue to evaluate the situation regarding future team travel and are establishing travel guidelines including COVID-19 vaccinations; following the advice of Leon ( Mission Communautaire de l’Eglise Chretienne des Cites/MICECC), taking into consideration Haiti’s COVID situation, security, and insecurity due to political and civil unrest, and the type of job the team might be doing;  and of course, we will also follow the requirements of the governments of Haiti and the United States.

We will continue to monitor all factors related to COVID-19 and the situation in Haiti. Hopefully, the uncertainties around the coronavirus and the political and civil situation in Haiti will settle out this year.

I Zoom often with our friends in Haiti. It does not take the place of an in-person visit, but it is nice to see all of the smiling faces. Here are a couple of pictures of some of the three-year-old students from Cite Soleil at the Terre Noire school.

We continue to stay in contact with Leon, Jacky, Nadege, and our MICEEC mission partners and monitor the situation in Haiti closely. Please join me in continuing to pray for the people of Haiti and our ministry. Much has been done, but as Leon says, "The best is yet to come."

Grace and Peace,
