Don and Martha Wehmeyer - November 2019 Update

Mérida, Mexico

In Mexico, the churches are the other way around, so I asked, do you always have more men than ladies? They laughed and said they have been meeting for over a year and it has just happened that way so far. The teaching that night was about ¨justification¨ and was taught very well by their pastor who visits twice a month, driving three hours from Osorno, a city further south.

In early October I led a retreat for pastors in Puebla with a friend, psychologist Joaquin Torre (see a photo of the gathering on page two). This is part of the Reformed Association for Pastoral Assistance program we started a couple of years ago. The men had a variety of backgrounds – Pentecostal, Baptist, Independent – and all shared a deep love for the Lord. The Scriptures were honored as the only rule for faith and practice. The theme of the retreat, The Secrete of the Vision, was renewal. The four, full days went very well. We covered many subjects including the pastors’ relationships with God, family and church members as well as self-care.

In November we will celebrate the wedding of our daughter Kristen to Michael Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas and we are happy as can be. Kristen is a nurse in the intensive care unit of the Wichita Falls hospital and Michael is a petroleum engineer. We will share more news about them in future updates. Just before their wedding is my mother’s ninetieth birthday. She is in Georgetown, Texas. Martha and I along with many friends will be visiting her for that special day. Also coming up in late November is a meeting with a number of local teachers and friends about starting a Christian Classical School in Mérida. I will let you know more about that as time goes on.

Looking forward to next year we have scheduled a pastor from Girardot, Colombia to come and teach in the seminary in January. He and his wife will stay with us for two weeks. Then, I have been invited to teach in Bogota and Cartagena, Colombia in late January. The musical missionary group we helped start has been visiting churches in Yucatan. They traveled to Colombia for a ten-day tour and will go to Chiapas on January 2nd for a week to lead worship in eight different churches. Their gift is “avivamiento” (revival) so they teach music in the morning and then lead worship with an evangelist preacher at night.

Please keep the brother and sisters of Sitpatch, Ricardo Silva and Magaly, Christ the Rock house church, the pastors in Puebla AND ESPECIALLY the wedding in your prayers. We cherish your emails and support. We try to answer everyone as soon as possible.

Blessings to each of you, En Cristo el Señor
