Kenya #5: Five loaves of bread and two fish

by Ebralie Mwizerwa for the team

Empowering children for a bright future has been much in the talk for this day from beginning to end.

This Sunday, November 17, 2019, is historic in the life of the Riamukurwe Parish and Tumaini Children’s Home. Her Excellency Dr. Joyce Banda, former President of Malawi and her family visited the home! She was accompanied by the Governor of Nyeri County and many other dignitaries. Outreach’s team was honored to share the day with such people! It was a big day here at the Riamukurwe Parish.

The day began with lining up in front of the church to welcome the guests! Ebralie Mwizerwa (team leader) and Frank Dimmock lined up with other Parish leaders to welcome the guests. Also in line were the Parish Minister Rev Nicholas Miriti, Eunice Muindi, Anne Muindi, and Catherine Mukami. Dr. Banda is a good friend of Anne Muindi Shemenski.

A great worship service in which the Outreach team gave greetings followed, Tumaini children presented a song, and words of encouragement were spoken both by Dr. Banda and the Nyeri County Governor!

In her speech, Dr. Banda spoke about education as not only a means to unlock the potential for an Individual but also as the key to the success of nations! Many children in Africa are not educated due to lack of financial means to afford an education. Tumaini emphasizes education at all levels: primary, high school, and post-high school including various vocational training. Tumaini children’s home has 24 students in Universities around Nyeri and Kenya, 60 in primary school, and 40 in High School.

It was a great day that ended very well!

Grateful to be in this place!
