Kenya #4: God El Rio, Jehovah sees us

by Alice Jensen

The day started out with a devotional by Pam Douglas about the name of God, El Rio. Jehovah sees us. Our two teen girls came down the aisles with giant eyeballs (bouncy plastic balls). They made masks to show off their eyes to remind them of God’s eyes are always on us. They decorated them with stickers and jewels. The children wore the masks all day.

In the late morning, we traveled to the Huruma home to give the children their sponsor letters, we had them write back, have pictures taken and distributed toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and candy. It was an uplifting excursion to see they are cared for and playing games with a local church group. Many of the girls remarked they wanted to be at the home because they were with their friends, were receiving an education and in a safe environment.

The afternoon was spent making bracelets, putting together jigsaw puzzles and laying a tile game. Pictures were taken of all the children to be given to their sponsors and one was taken to give to them. What beautiful smiles and what joy they have given to us again. We are here to enrich their lives and once again we are the ones who have been blessed even more.

We conclude our day with Psalm 23 for our evening sharing!
