Holistic Evangelism in Tete Province, Mozambique - March 2024

Read the update below from Trustee Berry Long on the current work of the Independent Presbyterian Church of Mozambique:

“We are grateful for The Outreach Foundation’s partnership with our Holistic Evangelism Project and the support of Sebber Banda and Rev. Carlos Faquione. Sebber and Carlos are doing a wonderful job of leading our project, and I thank the Lord for the talents and dedication of these amazing servant leaders. Sebber (see photo above) and her family are well. Her son, Adam, has graduated from college with a degree in bioengineering and is currently searching for a job. He is also considering graduate school. Her daughter, Nancy, is enrolled in college in Australia. Carlos and his wife Telma (see photo above), and sons Edy, Dido, and Carlos Jr. are also well and doing fine.

We had a very busy and productive 2023. We drilled 14 wells, built 3 schools and a teachers’ house, while also making some major improvements to the water system and solar-powered lighting at our clinics in the villages of Madzimaera and Khanga. We also held a full complement of leadership training seminars for lay church leaders. We had planned to build three churches last year, but that construction was affected by Cyclone Freddy and has been rescheduled for 2024.

As I look back at our work in 2023, I want to share some photos with you. One is of the recent completion of a primary school in the village of Nsanjika. Sebber sent us the following report:

"We have finally finished constructing Nsanjika school. We are so grateful to our donors for this amazing project which will see many youngsters become what they dream about. Some will be teachers, some pastors, and some doctors - all because of your dedication to the Lord's commandment to help others in need. It will be a changing tool for many generations to come, and we give all the praise to our Lord Jesus Christ. Your labor for kingdom building isn’t in vain, because the Lord is in control and it’s done."

The second photo is of a church we helped roof in the rural village of Mapelera, Malawi. The congregation had built the brick walls but lacked the funding to add the roof and window frames. We helped them with those needs. Sebber reported as follows:

"We assisted the Mapelera church in Malawi. They had iron sheets for the roof but didn’t have planks to hold the irons. They have managed to buy planks (wood) to lay irons on and also have managed to buy window frames. They managed to fix the iron roofing materials and today was their first day to worship inside the new building. They are so excited and grateful for the support."

We also built a teachers' house in the village of Caphilimbule (see photo). These simple but sturdy houses are designed like a triplex and provide housing for the principal's family and 2-4 single teachers. They replace mud-walled huts with grass roofs and are a huge incentive to attract teachers to live in rural villages.

We have ambitious plans for 2024 that will commence once the rainy season ends.

Zikomo kwambiri (thank you very much),

Berry Long
