Don and Martha Wehmeyer - August 2019 Update
Greetings from Yucatan,
In July I was in Bogota, Colombia for a seminary visit with the Disciples of Christ. San Pablo Seminary is working to establish several new diploma programs with this denomination. I participated in a missionary conference with Elaine Vaden, one of our Antioch Partners, Juan Sarmiento from The Outreach Foundation and several other leaders. The conference lasted four very full days. We commissioned Rev. Moises Mendoza to go for three months to serve a mission startup of the Presbyterian Church in Giradot, Colombia.
In August, I go to Agua Azul in Chiapas to give a three-day conference with the Chol Presbytery and the following week to Oaxaca to do the same with the Mixe Presbytery. These are rural mountain presbyteries that do not often get visiting teachers, so I am very happy to be able to help out. They are asking for conferences in pastoral theology and spiritual formation, two areas I enjoy greatly. The Gethsemane Retreat Center is being used all summer long by different churches and we are happy to able to provide this ministry here in Yucatan.
Please pray for Pastor Misael in Chia, Colombia. He is a tentmaker pastor and is trying to raise funds to pay for a certificate program that will allow him to teach English at the university level. This will give him a better income and he can share the Gospel of Jesus Christ while on campus. Also, in this regard, we are very grateful to Diane Crawford who traveled from North Carolina to volunteer as an English teacher for several months with Pastor Misael. Way to go Diane!
We are grateful for your support and we enjoy answering questions you might have about the ministry here in Southern Mexico. May the Lord bless you and keep you, may his face shine upon you and give you peace.
In Christ’s service,
Don and Marta Wehmeyer
