City Evangelization, Busanza Vocational Training Center

Dear friends and partners of the Presbyterian Church in Rwanda,

Through your generous gifts God is doing amazing work in Busanza! Last July, we dedicated the Vocational Training Center comprised of a vocational training school for both men and women and a school for special needs children. The special needs school was built in partnership with Legacy Mission Village (a not-for-profit ministry based in Nashville, TN).

A lot of exciting things have been taking place at the new center. Students in the Sewing and Tailoring School (both men and women) have learned how to make dresses. The sewing students are pleased to be learning these skills. The center also offers hair dressing and hair styling classes. Students in these classes are now able to cut, curl and style both men’s and women’s hair.

There has been a big improvement in the lives of children with special needs as a result of the new school, which is managed by the EPR Kanombe parish and the parish education committee. Most of the children come from poor families, so the church serves them breakfast to help them focus and learn. The committee and the parish meet regularly to discuss how to support and encourage both the community and the students who attend the school. They created a support group/savings and credit association for the parents of the special needs children. On their meeting day, the parents bring some money to save, and they also learn skills to care for their special needs child. The church invites an expert in to teach them how to create small businesses with the hope that when they accumulate some money from their savings, they can start small business activities to help them earn some income for their families. There are several groups like this in the church and the country. Lives have been changed by these savings and credit groups. The best part is that the people have ownership and are encouraged as they participate with their own savings.

On behalf of the church in Rwanda, we are grateful for your support. The Kingdom of heaven and the unity shown by your love have reached the far end of the African continent into a country that was almost wiped off the face of the earth. A country whose narrative is marked by killings and wars that escalated into genocide against Tutsi in 1994. When we see the wonderful work and joyful people with lives improving day by day, we can only say: “Ebenezer, thus far the Lord has brought us…”

Gratefully submitted on behalf of the church in Rwanda,

Ebralie Mwizerwa, Projects Coordinator
