Don and Martha Wehmeyer (Antioch Partners) - June 2016 Update

Yucatan, Mexico

Dear brothers and sisters,

Greetings from Don and Martha Wehmeyer in Yucatan. Here is a picture from the San Pablo Seminary graduation. My cell phone camera wasn’t really up to the job but you get the idea, the assembly hall was packed! The school of music did an excellent job as the students played and sang their new arrangements of old hymns. This year, it seemed, gospel music and Dixieland made it big in Yucatan!

I am teaching an intensive course for pastors working on their master’s degree called “Three Medieval Theologians.” I am going to use Benedict, Bernard and Kempis to see how each one treats the topic of humility. This is the greatest tool to fight against hubris, the greatest of the deadly sins. So this is a class that will be hard to grade: should the students be trying to get an A or an F? Once this class is finished, I will begin to prepare a week-long retreat for the students at Berea Seminary in Palenque, Chiapas. This is a Ch’ol language school, but the students today are mostly bilingual. The greatest challenge they have is paying teachers, so we are praying for new scholarships. Scholarships help the students and pay the teachers at the same time!

We have good family news to share. David has graduated from university and is now looking for a computer related job in Austin, and Valerie is expecting our third grandchild. No news yet on what color pajamas to get.

Please pray for a new church startup – presently meeting in our house! A name was chosen, Peace Community Church. Hopefully it will soon have a Facebook page and some members, too!

Blessings to each of you. We are grateful for your prayers and support that allow us to continue serving in Southern Mexico.
