Dan and Elizabeth Turk
About Our Partners
Fiangonan’i Jesoa Kristy eto Madagasikara (FJKM)
Dan and Elizabeth Turk serve with the PC(USA)’s partner church, FJKM, in the areas of health, environment, agriculture, and safe drinking water. Madagascar remains one of the world’s poorest countries. Located in the Indian Ocean, Madagascar is the world’s fourth-largest island and home to many unique species of mammals, birds and plants. The majority of Malagasy citizens are Christian, a large percentage adheres to traditional beliefs, and less than 10 percent are Muslim. The Turks work to improve the lives of the Malagasy people. Elizabeth trains village health workers, helps communities develop safe drinking water sources, and educates church leaders and youth about AIDS prevention. Dan has helped the FJKM develop an extensive fruit tree program that includes a fruit tree nursery and extension work with farmers. He also does environmental education, helping people live in harmony with God’s creation. Dan helps pastoral students grow fruits and vegetables. They will use these skills to help their community and families achieve improved food security and nutrition.
As part of Elizabeth’s program, more than 150 community health volunteers from rural areas are receiving training in health education techniques and basic health messages. Dan’s program helps communities in improving food security and nutrition.
The Outreach Foundation is seeking gifts totaling $10,000 for support funds.
