The Last Day
For the team, Jonathan Cornell
Today is our last full day in the Holy Land. Words can't begin to describe what a profound experience this has been...and we're saving the best for last. The Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus pronounced the characteristics of blessedness in the Kingdom of God, Church of the Multiplication where he fed the 5,000 Jews then 4,000 Gentiles, capped off by a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. My deepest thanks to The Outreach Foundation and our wonderful leader Marilyn Borst for the experience of a lifetime.
The stones we've seen are good and worthy of remembering, but they are dead stones. It is the people here, Palestinian and Israeli alike, who witness to the risen Lord that are the living stones. And it is their story of hope and constant faith with which we return, and from which we draw strength for our witness and walk.
For the team, Marilyn Borst
Grateful for this excellent Outreach Foundation team with whom I shared life on this Holy Land journey over these past ten days: Allen and Ann Carter McDonald, Judy and Doug Hollar, Deena Candler, Peggy Shirley, Toby Mueller, Liesa Persuad, Tracy Campbell, Rose Ross, Beth Germann and Jonathan Cornell. Your presence was an encouragement to Christian partners here who give witness to Christ every day. Thanks for wrestling with the tough issues which beset this place and with which, we, as Americans, are too often a hindrance and not a help. Thanks for your anger and tears over injustices which burden our Christian family here. Together, let us pray, work and advocate for a peace for ALL the inhabitants of this place, Israeli and Palestinian; Muslim, Jew and Christian. This will bring joy to our Lord, who walked in this place and spoke these words: "I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly." May it be so, Lord, may it be so...
