Monday, June 29: Printing Bibles and Studying Them

Amity Press is now the largest printer of Bibles in the world.

by Matt Scott

We went to the Nanjing Amity Printing Company this morning and were given a warm greeting and tour by their staff. The equipment was very high tech from various countries, obtained in order to manufacture Bibles for use in China and across the world. Amity Press is now the largest Bible printing company in the world. As of last month, 135 million Bibles have come off their production lines. After the tour, we had lunch with our guides and headed to the Nanjing Seminary.

Students studying in the library of the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary

At the Nanjing Union Theological Seminary our group met Dr. Liu who gave us a tour of the seminary, which has 353 full-time students. The students were just a few days away from graduation, and the library still had a few students studying. We learned about the curriculum taught, along with the history of the seminary. The campus featured beautiful Christian artwork depicting Jesus watching over cities around the world.

The sun ended up coming out near the end of our day as we headed for the Nanjing city gate. The gate had four sections with large tunnels to house soldiers. There was a live archery range where visitors could practice, and great views from the top of the gate overlooking the city of Nanjing.

We went to dinner at a delicious Chinese restaurant close to our hotel, and enjoyed a variety of authentic Chinese dishes.

Blessings to you,
