2019 Special Offerings

Giving is an appropriate response to grace – God’s grace, given freely and made available to all. At Outreach we are committed to the conviction that the church exists for God’s glory and God’s mission. God’s Word teaches us that we exist for the sake of others.

Many congregations with a passion for mission make use of special offerings to deepen their members’ knowledge about and commitment to God’s work in the world. We invite your church to participate in special offerings that we have planned for 2019.

World Communion Sunday

“Help us train our leaders!” is the most common appeal that comes to us from our partners around the world. The students at Gujranwala Theological Seminary in Pakistan demonstrate a deep love for Jesus Christ, a strong sense of call to pastoral ministry in the church and an amazing commitment to sharing the Gospel in a challenging context.

Twenty of the school’s 88 students are women. Sixty students live on campus. Established in 1877, Gujranwala Theological Seminary prepares young men and women for ministry in the 300 largely rural congregations of the Presbyterian Church in Pakistan - a country that the World Watch List identifies as the fifth hardest country in which to live as a Christian.

By partnering with The Outreach Foundation for this special offering, your church can help prepare young men and women to serve the body of Christ in Pakistan.

Christmas Eve

Vulnerable+Children%27s+Fund+2017+MO.jpg

As we celebrate the Christmas season, we retell the story of the birth of Jesus Christ. Mary gave birth to her first born, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room available for them. Mary and Joseph would later flee to Egypt to escape Herod’s violence against children. Jesus could certainly have been called a vulnerable child.

Today, millions of children around the world are vulnerable. They live as refugees, in poverty, unsure about their future. The Outreach Foundation is working to provide help and hope to these children because we believe that all children have a right to survive, thrive, and grow.

By partnering with The Outreach Foundation for this special offering, your congregation can help these vulnerable children.

Easter

At Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection faith asserts that by grace we are born again. We are called to new life. Our family-by-faith in Syria is beginning life anew, looking for a fresh start in the aftermath of devastating violence.

As Syria begins to rebuild, 18 Presbyterian congregations still require assistance for life’s basic needs and to facilitate their ministries. The National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon is assisting church families with basic needs including food, medicine, heating fuel, and housing. But it is also supporting many ministries of those churches: outreach to the displaced who have sought refuge in their cities, vibrant Sunday Schools, a kindergarten, a reconciliation program for teens, seminarians preparing for ministry and more.

By partnering with The Outreach Foundation for this special offering, your church can encourage the church in Syria to continue assisting, providing for, and lifting up the body of Christ.

Pentecost

On Pentecost we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit descending in a mighty rush of wind to inspire the church’s proclamation of Christ’s rising and to empower its ministry to the world. Today we can still fan that flame and help it grow.

In Costa Rica, through the teaching ministry of Reverend Roy Soto, pastors and church leaders are catching a fresh vision for how to grow outwardly-focused congregations that engage in life-changing incarnational witness to the Gospel. Through conferences, remote seminars, and internet technology, Roy and his team serve churches that feel the need to become less self-centered and traditional by providing practical instruction about the community-transforming dynamics of God’s kingdom.

By partnering with The Outreach Foundation for this special offering, your congregation can encourage them to continue teaching, sharing, and growing the body of Christ.

Refugee Sunday

Rebuilding+Hope+in+South+Sudan+April+2017+Volunteers+in+the+preschools+and+adult+learners+at+night.jpg

South Sudan has been in a terrible civil war. Tens of thousands have died. People have fled to safe areas in neighboring countries to escape the violence. Congregations have sprung up in these new areas (camps) where faithful pastors are preaching hope to those who long for peace. Former teachers have volunteered to teach children and adults in make-shift schools. The Outreach Foundation is providing Bibles and teaching materials for the temporary schools. There are now 500 thousand refugees from South Sudan in Ethiopia where Outreach is working with local partner EECMY to meet priority needs. Outreach is helping partners to rebuild hope in South Sudan and to prepare for the time when they will reconstruct their country.

Your church’s gift to this unique special offering can encourage our South Sudanese brothers and sisters and help bring healing, restore hope, and share love in this part of the world God loves.
