Mission and Training Center in Cobán, Guatemala
The Mission and Training Center in Cobán is part of a comprehensive Presbyterian ministry complex that will eventually include a campus for a K-12 school, dormitory, theological training center, chapel, guest house, dining hall, water purification system and manse. The Mission and Training Center will be a two-story, multi-purpose building and will include a reception area and bookstore, offices for the theological training program, a Presbyterian New Church Development (NCD), La Patria Norte Christian School, four classrooms and a 100-person meeting area for worship and training events.
The theological program, directed by the Evangelical National Presbyterian Church of Guatemala (IENPG), is in its third year with 72 indigenous students enrolled from nine presbyteries. This program equips pastors and church leaders to be more effective in proclaiming the Good News and expanding God’s Kingdom in their communities. It will use the meeting hall and classrooms. The local Presbyterian NCD, which in its first six months has an average attendance of 45 worshippers, will hold worship, educational and outreach ministries at the facility. La Patria Norte Christian School, with a current enrollment of 260 students, will have offices for admissions and community outreach. At the heart of the school’s mission is the making of disciples through Bible classes, devotions and Christian retreats.
Mission co-worker Philip Beisswenger (The Antioch Partners) serves as the coordinator of this project. The center’s foundation, frame and roof are completed. Funds are needed to finish the construction including interior and exterior walls, painting, flooring, plumbing and electrical work.
