HOME OF HOPE
ZIMBABWE

Known as the “The Tea and Bread Lady,” Joan Trevelyan is featured in a book published by The Outreach Foundation entitled A Prayer for the Children of Zimbabwe. The Outreach Foundation made it possible for Joan to purchase a home to live in and a facility for her street ministry.  She now ministers to street mothers as well as to children.

In addition to feeding and training at the Home of Hope, Joan provides breakfast six mornings a week to over 200 people living in the streets. She also provides scholarships and uniforms to over 100 school children and medical aid to many in need. This year, Innocent, a lad the home helped many years ago when he was 11 years old, has now passed his ‘A’ level exams and has received a scholarship to attend a University to study Law. This is encouragement to the home and to everyone who generously supported the home. The children call Joan “Mabhuwu” meaning the “lady who gives us tea and bread.” Each morning they stand patiently in line, waiting and trusting.

Joan’s son Craig joined her in this ministry.  Craig is a big encouragement to Joan and they both believe that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a priority for the people they serve. They believe that as people’s hearts are changed, their situation will improve. New Testament tapes, movies and other Christian literature are available to adults and children who come to Home of Hope. Many have responded positively to the Gospel, the only way to a lasting hope.

Minimum goal:  $30,000 - Tuition and uniforms for 100 street children($3,000); Food, medicine and transportation ($12,000); Training ($4,000); Operations ($11,000)
