SUDAN EVANGELISTIC OUTREACH MINISTIRES
SUDAN

Both the Presbyterian Church of Sudan and the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church (SPEC) are becoming more involved in prison ministry. A graduate of Nile Theological College began this ministry while still a student.

It is difficult to meet and hold Christian worship services in a predominantly Muslim environment. Opportunities to witness to those in prison are both very rewarding and very frustrating. The authorities make it difficult at times for ministers to get into the prison to meet with Christians. Despite these obstacles, pastors and evangelists are visiting each prison in Khartoum and every prison now has a chapel service on Sundays.

In one instance, a baptism service was held for several of the inmates. Three guards also wished to declare their faith in Christ and be baptized. But in order for the guards to be baptized, they had to dress as prisoners and then returned to their uniforms and positions following the baptism.

As the prison ministry has grown, the financial burden on the local churches has grown. They continue to provide prisoners with medicine, clothing, blankets, food, Bibles and Bible study materials. Unfortunately, costs have increased correspondingly.

The vision and desire of these churches is to create a Theological Education Extension (TEE) program in all of the prisons, which would cost about $7,000 per year. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to partner with the Sudanese Church in this ministry.

Minimum goal:  $7,000 - Outreach to prisoners
