BIBLE TRANSLATION
ETHIOPIA
The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) is working with Wycliffe Bible Translators to produce a complete Bible in Suri, the dialect of the Surma people. They have already published the Gospel of Luke and have prepared drafts of other books such as Genesis, Ruth, Jonah, Mathew and James. Recent drafts include Malachi, Amos, portions from Exodus, Deuteronomy, 2 Samuel and Proverbs. Instead of taking a book by book approach, translators are translating scriptures that deal with issues that the Suri need biblical guidance on like hunger, adultery, etc. The book of Jonah is in being printed and the gospel of Luke is in the editing stage. On-going funding is needed for local translators, translation materials and printing.
The recording of the Jesus Film in Suri/Mursi is now finished. Many different people from both tribes were involved in various processes of dubbing the film. More than 300 people packed the church at the viewing to hear a film in their language for the first time.
Minimum goal: $5,000 - Translation and printing expenses
